Torah parashah Vayera - He Appeared
B’re’shiyt 18:1-22:24
*
Once again we are not going to do the B’re’shiyt word study by Brad Scott... we will get back to that though!
*
Shabbat shalom!
How’s your week been??
Mine was difficult.... i am guessing most of yours was as well.
I know it was a full moon week.
You know i often take note and say something like - “there was a shift” or “something changed”...
Well this week, it seems to me that the dark got darker.
I did a short search of the scriptures for “darkness” -
“Darkness” is in the scriptures a lot.
Tesloniqyah alef /I Thessalonians 5:5
“You are all the children of Light, and the children of the Yom; we are not of the night, or of the darkness.”
I just want to share this observation - that everything was so hard.... and in my words... “the dark got darker”....
because... what i am learning is....
“Things being hard” - is a neon sign that i used to miss... that shouts loudly....
“This is the time to worship! This is the time make tefillah /pray! This is the time to seek the face of YHWH!!!”
I have forever seen injustice in the world.... but now i am learning to see it and then look at YHWH....and not let the injustice, and even the righteous anger consume me....
*
I went to a very interesting building this week to get finger prints in order to be approved for coaching...
it was very strange...
I walked into a large / hollow lobby with marble tile floors and walls.
The receptionist sat behind a huge desk... probably 10 meters or more wide... and the front was so high i didn’t see her at first!
There i was getting my finger prints done... and someone else came in who had to go talk with someone... she had to push a button to unlock the hall way!!!
There i was thinking ..
What were they expecting that this place is so locked up?
Why is it like this?
and ....
remember the “left behind” series that we used to read??... we know that they have the tribulation and who is taken all wrong... but my point is... in that story - the people who decided to become “christians” after the believers were taken...they were living in a very hostile world... operating below the surface.... doing what they needed... but we very cautious about what they said to whom etc....
and it hit me.... we are living in a world like that now and we are the ones who are different!
Praise YHWH!!!
Why would i bring all of this up??
Because we have to be transformed by the renewing of our minds!!
Romans 12:2
“And be not conformed to this olam hazeh (present world): but be transformed by the ongoing renewing of your mind, that you may discern what is that tov, acceptable, and even the perfect, will of YHWH.”
amein...
And this last verse....
Romans 12:2
“And be not conformed to this olam hazeh (present world): but be transformed by the ongoing renewing of your mind, that you may discern what is that tov, acceptable, and even the perfect, will of YHWH.”
Is exactly where we are going today.....
in this pursuit to understand the Melchizedek priesthood....
I am going to share from a teaching that Matthew Nolan did at Sukkot.
I present this to you... b/c i believe it is the truth... it only makes sense....
but let me tell you .... up front.... don’t stay and listen if you don’t truly want to be transformed by the renewing of your mind...
Because this teaching does not fit in with what those of us who grew up in the church were taught.
I have been studying this teaching and pondering it and asking YHWH about it and i feel i am to bring it to you...
...not because I have all of the answers... to what i know will be your many questions...
but because i do not
and because as I study the little Hebrew i understand... it finally makes sense -
- not only of what it says in Hebrew... but what we know about the Scriptures being “monked with” / changed....
and because it is how the Torah works.... YHWH shows us something that is a type and shadow - a prophecy ... and then HE does it...
And because with this part of the Scriptures understood as i am going to tell you - it finally makes sense of things ...
Remember i am not telling you i have all of the answers...
and maybe this is not all correct... but this is what i am coming to understand - based on Torah.
wow...
Here we go... buckle up.

The Torah parashah for today is
Vayera - He Appeared
B’re’shiyt 18:1-22:24
The part that i want to focus on today is
B’re’shiyt /Genesis 22
~~
But before we start that i want to point out one thing that is not related...
In B’re’shiyt 18... YHWH / 3 men have come to Avraham... and he has Sarah make a meal...
B’re’shiyt 18:8
“And he took butter, and milk, and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the eytz, and they did eat.”
We know the Jewish teaching is that this was a long meal.. and the dairy was not served with the meat...
... but that is not what it says...
(I will be the first to remind you that what it says in English - or even the masoretic text - is sometimes not correct.)
~~
I want to read what is known in Jewish circles as
Avraham’s Akediah
Read
B’re’shiyt 22
~~
First let’s consider some geography/topography...
According to Chuck Missler...
Mt Moriah is a ridge line between the Mt of Olives and Mt Zion.
It is bordered by:
the Kidron Valley on the east,
the Hinom Valley on the south,
and the Tyropean Valley on the west.
If we approach the Mount as Avraham did, from Beersheva to the south,
we begin at about 600 meters above sea level, and climb to its peak,
which is about 777 meters above seal level.
Many years later, David would purchase the threshing floor of Arunah where Solomon would eventually build the Temple.
(A threshing floor was located where a prevailing wind would facilitate the separation of the grain from the chaff.)
In this case, it was at about 741 meters above seal level, just below the peak.
The peak of the Mount is at a place just outside the city wall (of Jerusalem) to the north.
According to Chuck Missler....
It’s a place you can still visit today, just above an Arab bus station outside the Damascus Gate.
It is known as GOLGOTHA !!!
Are you getting this?...
- ....That the place where Avraham took his son to offer him as a sacrifice....
- ....is the same place where YHWH offered His Bienah ... His plan for restoration. !!!
**
Now with this in mind....
let’s go to Matthew Nolan’s ...
The first thing i am going to say is that we have been learning that the church has it’s bibles based on the Masoretic text of the Tanakh.
When we know that the Septuagint was translated years before Y’shua was even born... directly from the text of the Tanakh that Y’shua used!!
The Masoretic text was written between the 7th and 10 centuries CE!!
and we know that the Masoretic text was “monked” with!
Meaning that it has been proven that at least 134 times, the Masoretic text changed references to the Messiah Y’shua !!
Yirmeyahu /Jeremiah 16:19
“O YHWH, my strength, and my stronghold, and my refuge in the Yom of Tribulation, the gentiles shall come to You from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our ahvot (fathers) have inherited only lies, only vanity, and things in which there is no profit.”
(The foot note of this verse in the RSTNE Scripture says...”in non- Hebraic lifestyles.”)
-Ok...all that said and from teachings before....
... we know that the Scriptures need to be studied very closely and taken back to as much of original as possible.
*
Another thing we know is that our Messiah Y’shua has risen from the dead! :)
But many many persons do not believe in the resurrection.
We also know that traditional Judaism does not believe in the resurrection.
I am going to suggest to you that the translators of the Masoretic text / Judaism has hidden the revealed resurrection in the Book of the Covenant of Promise.
Matthew Nolan said...
“Judaism insists that there is NO precedence of human sacrifice ... and that YHWH never thought of vicarious / substitutional atonement.”
So... we are at an important point that i must say...
I have always said...
The christian end of the spectrum is messed up
and the Jewish end of the spectrum is messed up...
We knew to move away from the teachings of christianity
(Notice i did not say teachings of the Word!)
But we didn’t know how the Jewish end is messed up other than them not believing in Messiah Y’shua.
But that is the point we must start with...
Judaism doesn’t believe what we believe...!!
They don’t believe in Messiah
and how crazy is it that christianity uses Masoretic texts... translated by Jews who don’t believe in Messiah!!
We should be using the Septuagint - because it is much more ancient and true!
(Suggest - Brenton’s Septuagint with Apocrypha)
~
How do ancient Jews explain the absence of Yitz’chak?
We are going to come back to that question...
but first let’s go to...
Ivrim / Hebrews 11:17-19
Let’s start with Complete Jewish Bible - a RABBINIC text...
“By trusting, Avraham, when he was put to the text, offered up Yitz’chak as a sacrifice. Yes, he offered up his only son, he who had received the promises, 18 to whom it had been said, ‘What is called your ‘seed’ will be in Yitz’chak.” 19 For he had concluded that God could even raise people from the dead! And, figuratively speaking, he did so receive him.”
Okay...now let’s look at
Ivrim 11:17-19 in the RSTNE
“17 By emunah (faith or trust) Avraham, when he was tried, offered up Yitz’chak: and he that had received the promises offered up his only brought-forth son.
18 Of whom it was said, That in Yitz’chak shall your zera (seed) be called:
19 Accounting that YHWH was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from where also he received him in a figure.”
-The foot note of the end of vs 19 “received him in a figure” says...
“As a figure, or type of the coming Messiah who would die as opposed to Isaac”
- Let’s read this based on what it says... not what we were taught it means...
vs 17... “offered up Yitz’chak: and he that had received the promises offered up his only brought-forth son.”
hmmm
~~~
Let’s go to the end of the story a moment...
B’re’shiyt 22: 19
“So Avraham returned to his young men, and they rose up and went together to Beer-Sheva; and Avraham dwelt at Beer-Sheva.”
Where is Yitz’chak here?
In fact he isn’t even talked about at his mother’s death/funeral etc.
Is it POSSIBLE...
ponder on this for a bit...
Is it POSSIBLE that Yitz’chak didn’t return with Avraham
because he died.... ???
yes that is what i said...
Is it possible that...
...Yitz/chak didn’t return with Avraham
... because he died...
- as prophecy of Y’shua’s death on the same hill?
Yitz’chak isn’t mentioned from the time Avraham comes down from the Mt... until - B’re’shiyt 24:62...
and interestingly enough He is at the well of Lachai-Roei - “The Well of Living Water” or “the Well of the Living One”.
Read
B’re’shiyt 24:62- 64
Do you see that place there in verse 64?....
the RSTNE says
“and when she saw him she was lifted from off the camel”
The Complete Jewish says...
“she quickly dismounted”
But the Hebrew Interlinear says...
“she is falling from the camel”. !!!
hmmm... maybe I’d fall off too if i believed someone dead... was walking toward me....
~
But this is just the beginning...
~
Now let’s go back to our earlier question...
How do ancient Hebrews /Jews explain Yitz’chak’s absence???
One Jewish sage wrote that Yitz’chak stayed in Gan Eden / Paradise for three years before he shows up again in the Scriptures.
Another midrash on B’re’shiyt 24:36 depicts Yitz’chak as descending from heaven to claim his bride.
(What picture does this remind you of??!!!!)
Now i will be the first to tell you - these are just some guy’s opinions.
and Yes that is true...
...but isn’t it interesting to see that Jewish scholars from about 285 CE explain this this way!??
hmmm
~~~~~
Now let’s go to the key verse...
B’re’shiyt 22:16
“And said, ‘By Myself have I sworn, says YHWH, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son.”
Well, Janet, how is this verse the KEY verse ??
Here we have to go back to Hebrew... (of course! :) )
= The English “you have done”
In ... “because you have done this thing and have not withheld your son, your only son.”
In Hebrew “you have done” is “ASAH”
ASAH is an ayin, a shin, and a hey.
This word means =
to make or create...
it is A DEED FULLY DONE and is in past tense. !!!
With that understanding...
What B’re’shiyt 22:16 - better translated would say something close to....
“because you did this completely - giving your only son”
hmm
*****
Now let’s go back to something else...
B’re’shiyt 22:12
“And He said, Lay not your hand upon the lad, neither do anything to him; for now i know that you fear Elohim, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son from me.”
...Now i will be the first to say right here... “oh come on... it SAYS right here... ‘lay not your hand upon the lad... neither do anything to him’.”
--“neither do anything” / “neither do thou” in English is ASAH = a completed work in past tense. (Strong’s 6213)
--“upon” in English is = “el” in Hebrew
and it is = aleph and a lamed
This word means...
to, toward, concerning, according, at, against, limit is actually entered, and in addition to.
--The first “son” in this verse
as in “not withheld your son”
in Hebrew it is “ben” - and ben can be translated as...
= “Son, male child, grandson, children, youth, young men, people, a member
and ...
“of lifeless things”
B’re’shiyt 22:13
“And Avraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and saw behind him a ram caught in a thicket by its horns; and Avraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son.”
I always understood this meant - So Avraham untied the very much alive Yitz’chak and helped him off the altar...
and killed the ram INSTEAD OF and burned the ram.
So what is the big deal here??
Now this really starts to get in over my head... so i am going to tell you what Matthew Nolan taught here...
and i am going to assume... that i just don’t know enough Word yet to get it... ... so let’s hear this teaching... as a potential correct teaching but we don’t understand it for sure yet... but pray and study!!!
so...
Back to
B’re’shiyt 22:12
“And He said, Lay not your hand upon the lad, neither do anything to him; for now i know that you fear Elohim, seeing you have not withheld your son, your only son from me.”
“What if the angel of YHWH is stopping a BURNT OFFERING??!!”
“There would be a slaying and ...
then there would be a burning.... and the burning is until it is totally consumed”
Ivrim /Hebrew 11 said...
~
So all this said...
we might say.../ believe....
Avraham offered up his son...and the Melach stopped the BURNING.
~
Matthew Nolan also said... that
Y’shua was hung on a tree... the same tree as the two other guys...
and there you have it - a Menorah... the tree trunk as the center and six arms raised... = 7 branches.
Matthew Nolan said... they went around the tree and broke the legs of the two guys but when they got around to Y’shua - He was already dead....
and then - the Jewish people wanted to burn Y’shua’s body.
I have no idea how he knows this.... but again - I trust this teacher...so i am sharing this not as a DONE or PROVEN deal....
but it is time we start seeing the Word and what it says.. for what makes sense... etc!!
Joseph of Arimathea took the body of Y’shua down before it was burned.
(I realize that the scripture says - buried not burned ... so we have to study this part!)
***
Okay let’s back up and look at this...
WE know that YHWH always tells us before he does it.... so there is always a prophecy...
If we look at what i have just taught.... and we CONSIDER this...
We have Yitz’chak being taken... carrying the wood ...
him being sacrificed - killed
dead...
and then he resurrects in order to marry his bride!!!!
~
Another thing that occurs to me...
we have been taught that “Avraham had the FAITH/TRUST that YHWH COULD raise Yitz’chak from the dead”...
Well...
Do we have the FAITH/ TRUST to believe that YHWH actually did???
Why would we take the word /s of a group of people who do NOT believe in resurrection
who do not believe in Messiah Y’shua?? !!!
What if it happened this way??
What if Avraham - was a way more amazing man of TRUST than we ever ever considered...
and what if YHWH was more amazing that we can begin to fathom??
I do not understand the burning piece... but B’re’shiyt 22 does say that the RAM was “offered up for a burnt offering instead of his son.”
and you can say...
“well, YHWH would have never done human sacrifice... he hates it... that is what the pagans do to Molech.”
Yep, that is what the pagans do to Molech...
BUT I know that YHWH always tells us/ shows us before HE does something...
and here we have a man slain and resurrected to marry his bride...
and i don’t believe in coincidence.
He is not talked about... after the akediah .... until he comes to marry his bride.
Imagine if this is true... the TRUST Avraham had - to send Eliazer out to get the bride.
BUT... we learned in B’re’shiyt 15 that Avraham was NOT alseep - he was in a trance and while in the trance...
Avraham saw the things to come - the B’rit Chadashah tells us so!!
~~
Ivrim /Hebrews 11: 19
“Accounting that YHWH was able to raise him up, even from the dead; from where also he received him in a figure.”
foot note...
“As a figure, or type of the coming Messiah who would die as opposed to Isaac.”
~
Now i want to return to a couple of things
at the beginning of this teaching...
- I suggested you fasten your seat belts....
i hope you are still in the seat. :)
and i hope this inspires you to study - and either prove me wrong - based on original Torah... or prove me right.
because right now as i understand... there is a whole lot more truth to what i taught today than what i was taught it meant.
and
- Darkness is increasing....
but oh my goodness!!... Baruch YHWH!!!....
i am just learning that the Elohiym i serve - is way way way more trustworthy than i had any idea!!!
and HIS LIGHT is getting brighter.
Yes the Torah says that in the end after the tribulation - the sun will no longer shine....
but it also says that the light in the New Heaven - is YHWH himself.
THAT is the light I want!...
and i believe when HE gives me pieces of understanding of His Word.... i get a little more of His light...
that’s what I’m running after
and i hate roller coasters but i will climb in and fasten the seat belt if it means i understand more of HIS emet...
because then i understand more of
Who YHWH is
and who He says that I am...
so then i know how to live
and i can live - as He has called me to live...
... no matter what.
buckle up and go study!!
amein!!
