Torah Parashah Vayikra ~ “and He called”
Vay-yiq’ra 1:1- 5:26 cjb p 109
B’re’shiyt teaching - “v’choshek”, ‘al-p’ney, t’hom
** ** ** ** ** ** **
Torah Parashah:
Vay’yiq’ra - Leviticus - “And He called”
-“the book of sacrifices”
This book tells us how to be in relationship with YHWH = with sacrifice.
YHWH calls Moshe from the Tent of Meeting - the Mishkan, and gives him the laws of the korbanot - the animal and meal offerings brought in the Sanctuary.
These include: the “ascending offering” (olah) that is wholly raised to YHWH by the fire atop the Altar;
Five varieties of “meal offering” (michah) prepared with fine flour, olive oil and Frankincense.
The “peace offering” (shelamim) whose meat was eaten by the one bringing the offering, after parts are burned on the Altar and parts are given to the Kohanim (priests).
The different types of “sin offering” (chatat) brought to atone for transgressions committed erroneously by the High Priest, the entire community, the king, or the ordinary Jew;
The “guilt offering” (asham) brought by one who has appropriated property of the Sanctuary, who i in doubt as the whether he transgressed a divine prohibition, or who has committed a “betrayal against YHWH” by swearing falsely to defraud a fellow man.
*
Yayikra 3:1 cjb p 112
“If a person who is a witness, sworn to testify, sins by refusing to tell what he has seen or heard about the matter, he must bear the consequences”
So what is the big deal??....
Well let’s go to:
Mattityahu 26:63 cjb p 1259
“Yahshua remained silent. The cohen hagadol said to him, “I put you under oath! By the living God, tell us if you are the Mashiach, the Son of God!”
So what oath is the cohen hagadol talking about??
The Trespass Offering of Vay’yakra /Lev 5:1.
What this means is... when the cohen hagadol said... “I put you under oath...”
He was putting Yahshua in a trap.
If Yahshua didn’t answer - he would be guilty of sin - b/c according to the trespass offering - if he knew he had to say - or it was a sin.
And if Yahshua was really the Son of God.... He couldn’t sin..... and if he did - he would violate his perfect sacrifice...
Hence Yahshua’s answer in
Mattityahu 26: 64 cjb p 1259
“The words are your own. ....”
*
Let’s return to talking about sacrifices...
Yahshua came to show us how to live Torah - and He gave up his life....
May we give up our life - and not be about what we want, but what HE wants.
May we pray and mean it - “not my will, but thine will be done.”
This idea is the point of the binding of Yitz’chak /Isaac and the potential sacrifice of him.
We are called to live for HIM.... to climb up on the altar and give up our selves...
Romans 12:1-2 cjb p 1416
“I exhort you, therefore, brothers, in view of YHWH’s mercies, to offer yourselves as a sacrifice, living and set apart for YHWH. This will please him; it is the logical “Temple Worship” for you. 2 In other words, do not let yourselves be conformed to the standards of the ‘olam hazeh. Instead, keep letting yourselves be transformed by the renewing of your minds; so that you will know what YHWH wants and will agree that what he wants is good, satisfying and able to succeed.”
The sacrifices were a way to get close to YHWH and connect with Him.
This is prophetic of Mashiach Yahshua....we see Him in every single sacrifice....
~
So this parashah is about sacrifice....
but the title is “And He called”....
What does calling have to do with this??
YHWH calls Moshe the prophet ... and then HE talks about sacrifice.
This brings us back to what we have talked about before....
What do we give YHWH?
How do spend our time?
our money?
our energy?
How do we take care of our temples?
What are you giving YHWH??

B’re’shiyt teaching from Brad Scott’s work...
p 3 in your study guide:
B’re’shiyt 1:1
“B’re’shiyt bara Elohiym ‘ET hashamayim v’et ha’aretz.”
“In the beginning created Elohiym the heaven and the earth.”
p 10 in your study guide:
B’re’shiyt 1:2a
“V’ha’arets hay’tah tohu vavohu v’choshek al-p’ney t’hom.”
“And the earth was/became without form and void. and darkness was upon the the face of the deep.”
~
Remember last shabbat we talked about VAVOHU and we said it means
“astonishingly confused”.... ?..
hasatan’s mission is to confuse the natural - the “seen” = What we see in the world... so that we don’t understand the spiritual. Because the seen - the physical - is designed to explain or teach us the spiritual.
*
B’re’shiyt teaching...
Today we are going to begin our B’re’shiyt study with
V’choshek
(vekoshek)
“V’ha’arets hay’tah tohu vavohu v’choshek al-p’ney t’hom.”
The Hebrew letters are:
chet - shin - kaph
V’CHOSHEK is translated as - darkness
and is associated with the earth being without form and void….
nothing but darkness…..
Again - if you are going to say that YHWH created the world dark empty and void…
…… then you are going to have to assume He created it in darkness.
I don’t believe that is Yah’s desire… or plan…
He created - bara -ed it - a completed work…
… and something happened…. and we believe it is then that hasatan fell.
Luke 10: 18 cjb p 1306
“Yahshua said to them, “i saw satan fall like lightning from heaven.”
Yesha’Yahu / Isaiah 14: 12-14 cjb p 458
In B’re’shiyt 1:2 is the renewing process. …
… He begins renewing in darkness… but He didn’t create it in darkness…
This is the same pattern as with Nakdimon (Nicodemus) - coming to Yahshua in the night… for renewing in Yochanan 3.
There he was coming to Mashiach in the night….
and Mashiach… brings His light in….
-Nakdimon (Nicodemus) ….A man sitting on the 71 member highest Hebrew ruling council - the Sanhedrin…. in darkness… but he knew enough to come… he came at night to Mashiach to talk with him… b/c he couldn’t be seen going in the day…. He was a Pharisee who didn’t know Truth, but he “got” enough to want to come and ask - to pursue understanding Truth at the risk of his reputation.
And Mashiach speaks Truth / light.. into his darkness…
and right here in B’re’shiyt 1:2… we have the word V’CHOSHEK = “darkness”
darkness = V’CHOSHEK
vav = and
chet - shin - kof
V’CHOSHEK -is based on the word “choshek" -= chet -shin -kof
It literally means.. “to be dark”
… it is speaking of something without light…
It is also translated as = dim, blackness, obscurity…
…and also translated as CONFUSION
page 12 of your study guide:
Sh’mu’el Alef 2:9 / I Sam 2:9 cjb p 300
“He will guard the steps of his faithful, but the wicked will be silenced in darkness.”
“darkness” = V’choshek.
(Is this the way we think YHWH created?)
Iyov /Job 15:20-30 cjb p 1010
= Those who follow hasatan are his children… and they live in darkness.
Psalm 18:28 - cjb p 805
“For you, YHWH, light my lamp; YHWH, my Elohiym, lights up my darkness.” = “darkness” = C’choshek.
Psalm 35:4-6 “confusion” “dark”
-Do you see the association of being confounded and confused with darkness? !!
Proverbs /Mishlei 2:13 “in ways of darkness”
Mishlei 20:20 “darkness”
Yesha’Yahu Isaiah 5:20 cjb p 43
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who change darkness (V’choshek) into light and light into darkness (V’choshek).”
The adversary - hasatan - made the world a wilderness - YHWH didn’t do that!
II Corinthians 4:3-6 cjb p 1443
In this - darkness is directly attributed to hasatan.
Now let’s look at something challenging...
Yesha’Yahu /Is 45:7 cjb p 507
“I form light, i create darkness (V’choshek); I make well-being, i create woe; I YHWH do all these things...
hmm
“I form light and create darkness…”
Hasatan fell - and as result of that fall he is - out of the Word of YHWH.
We can see that already in the beginning with YHWH… we have curses and blessings.
The first result of the darkness was b/c someone had already fallen.
This seems complicated... but...
YHWH doesn’t create sin /hatah / darkness ... It is a curse
the rejection of light = It is darkness.
These words - sin / hatah /darkness/ curse / rejection f light - are words associated together.
Torah is referred to as light in scriptures,
Mizmor /Psalm 119:105 cjb p 916
“Your word is a lamp for my foot and a light on my path.”
Path = “agol” = cycles of YHWH ... Hebrew holidays...shabbats etc....
~
But we are now dealing with the darkness.
In Hebrew thinking there are certain terms associated with light and with darkness and night, that are used with respect to the nature of people as well...
I Thessalonians 5:1-3 cjb p 1476 -concerning the Day of YHWH (the LORD) …
Hebrew seasons are marked by the sun and moon and Hebrews knew that was directly related to the first and second coming…
Shaul was speaking of his brethren Yahudeem and was quoting ...
Amos 5: 18 -21cjb p 737
“Woe to you who want the Day of YHWH! Why do you want it, this Day of YHWH? It is darkness (V’choshek), not light; as if someone were to run from a lion, just to be met by a bear; as if he entered a house, put his hand on the wall, just to be bitten by a snake. Won’t the Day of YHWH be darkness (V’choshek), not light, completely dark, with no brightness at all? I hate, i utterly loathe your festivals; i take no pleasure in your solemn assemblies...”
... The Day of YHWH is darkness = v’choshek.
It begins in darkness for those who do not know YHWH.
They are called the sons of the night.
But those who know YHWH and have Torah have no darkness (v’choshek) … and they know this b/c the times and seasons are given in the beginning.
~
Brad says...
most christians today- start reading the book of Yochanan /John - not B’re’shiyt.. so they don’t know the times and seasons - plus this isn’t taught …
And most christians have no concept of teaching and theology of Torah - the WORD....
And - probably the BEST thing that the best studiers in christianity get out of “Genesis” - is that it was not evolution but creation!
But YHWH says... you who know the times and seasons are not in the darkness… but are the “sons of light”.. While the other is the “sons of darkness”…
In Hebrew thinking - the sons of darkness - are those without Torah.
Those who are “sons of the light” - are the ones with Torah.
Those who don’t know Torah - who follow hasatan belong to the lawless one.
We have to understand that the association with darkness and wickedness and confusion.. and we see this revealed in the lawless one in the END.
Amos is talking to a people who have their own feast days and solemn assemblies - acknowledge God… but don’t serve him right…
Anti messiah already in the earth…
Yochanan Aleph / I John 4:3 cjb p 1527
“ and every spirit which does not acknowledge Yahshua is not of YHWH - in fact, this is the spirit of the Anti-Messiah, you have heard that he is coming. Well, he’s here now, in the world already!”
We have to remember...
only Torah is referred to as the LIGHT in Scripture… and ...
....HE is thee light of the world….
—
Rabbinical remarks on p 12 in study guide…
“Darkness was to obscure the Aleph-Tav thereby obscuring the object of Aleph-Tav - creation.”
This is what we’ve been saying... that hasatan’s plan is to astonishingly confuse what we see in the natural... so that we believe lies about YHWH.
** ** ** ** ** ** **
Let’s go to page 13 of your study guide and we are going to talk about the word...
Al-p’ney
“al” = on, or about
= tzade - lamed
= it is a preposition
“p’ney” = is from the root - pahah
panah = focus attention = pey -nun- hey
related to paniym = face, presence, before, countenance
this is a vital word to understanding the phrase - “and Yah saw Moshe face to face”. It really is saying.... to focus attention on
Translated primarily as “FACE” in Scripture… and “presence” and “before” (like standing before or in front of), and countenance…
_ When you remember someone, it is their face you recall - not their arms, legs, back etc… = something that you would remember / have intimate relationship
B’Midbar 6:22-27 cjbp 153 Aahronic benediction…
“face shine upon you and give you peace...”
Aren’t these… the things we are seeking of YHWH??!!....
If we seek “a hand” in Hebrew - we want them to give us something…
But when we seek his face - we want to be intimate with Him. ... Seeking Him in our lives… looking for his presence in us and surrounding us… not literally the head/face… but to be in the Presence..
paniym el paniym = “face to face”
Not that Moshe saw his face… but it is about His presence…
In your study guide on page 13... we have some references where
‘al-p’ney is used...
B’re’shiyt 6:11 cjb p 6 - the implied word --“before” - “the entire earth was corrupt before HIM”
Sh’mot 6:12 in the presence of YHWH
B’midbar 6:25 “countenance” - or - “way behaving” or “their presence”…
II Corinthians 4:6 cjb p 1443 - in the face of Yahshua the Messiah… notice the contrast - going back to the light out of the darkness… but the contrast is the light of the Mashiach - His Presence…
Mizmor 23:5
Sh’mot 25:30 - “shewbread” = lehem panim
There was no presence of YHWH at this time... so .... ie no light.
T’HOM
= “the deep”
hey- vac - men
From the Hebrew word - “hum” = agitate, deep, depths, - to destroy, great noise.
Hum- hey- vac- mem
All this - the agitate, deep, depths, to destroy and a great noise....has to do with something that happened between B’re’shiyt 1:1 and 1:2
D’varyim 7:23 cjb p 206- “destroy” =“hum”
D’variym 28:20 cjb p 228 “curses” = hum
Miz’mor 36:6 - judgment and deep -associated
Miz’mor 42:8 (7) cjb p 832
“Deep is calling to deep at the thunder of your waterfalls; all your surging rapids and waves are sweeping over me.”
Get this....”deep” is associated with “noise”
Noise also associated with - “The ways of the west and the multitudes”!!!!!
Mizmor 71:20 cjb p 860
“you have made me see much trouble and hardship, but you will revive me again, and bring me up from the depths (t’hom) of the earth.”
Hitgalut Revelation 2:24 cjb p 1535 depths of hasatan…
“But to the rest of you in Thyatira, to those who do not hold this teaching, who have not learned what some people call the “deep things” of the Adversary, I say this: i am not loading you up with another burden; “
T’Hom = to agitate - destruction - great noise.. and wickedness..
and in the NT….
There are 3 Greek words for “deep” in the New Testament
abussos - bottomless pit (cast down, foundation… wickedness and destruction all directly associated with each other…
- Hitgalut 20:1,3
- “deep” - Romans 10:7 - who shall descend from the deep … and bring up the Messiah… apparently the Messiah went down there.. Eph 4 to set captives free..
b. bathos - deepness -
Luke 5:4 - “deep”
Hitgalut 2:24 - deep,
Ephesians 3:18- depths
kuma - “waves” - “the deep” in the Tanakh.
Mattityahu 14:24 cjb p 1242
“But by this time, the boat was several miles from shore, battling a rough sea and a headwind.”
The “waves” - “rough sea” is t’hom.
We need to see the association of B’re’shiyt / Genesis and Hitgalut / Revelation....
... and how this word is assoc. with hasatan…
Y’chez’q’el / Ezekiel 26:19 cjb p 593
YHWH uses hasatan to accomplish these things.
YHWH removes himself from protection and hasatan just jumps right in…
YHWH’s desire from beginning was to have His spirit on us… but He takes His hand from us…
YHWH removes… really.... we remove His hand from us…
This is what it is going to be in the latter days when the earth is destroyed and all who follow the waster will go where the waster goes…
YHWH is not doing this… ~~ We have removed His blessings and the waster comes…
Those things that he has spoken of that will happen - will take place - destruction will come up on the earth… out of the Word…
He doesn’t work like Greek gods… no - he takes his hand off and the waster will do the curses…
When we obey = blessings…. and his hand is on us...
.......but when we disobey we are cursed and His hand is removed…
**
At this point in the Torah of B’re’shiyt - we have the heavens and the earth and then we get the waters.
There is no mention of the creation of the waters… we can’t tell what the earth looked like…
but we do know the shamyim contain the water…
so
i believe the heavens contained the water and the earth was just mass and matter and when chaos ensued b/c of the fall.. .
.......there was corruption in the waters in the deep and the first thing he does is move over the face of the waters and later on the waters are divided…
So it is the waters that is going to cleanse all things - ie baptism/ immersion…
The first thing Yah does is he cleanses and restores the waters….
All things come from the waters.. the earth is going to come out of the waters…
YHWH begins with cleansing…
this is background for why in the end there is going to be a new heaven and new earth…
*** ***
Let’s talk a bit about creation/evolution ...
I believe B’re’shiyt 1:1 is a finished work… the restoration is day 1… and then we have a chronology we can track….. the actual age of the earth… i believe in a young earth…not an earth that is millions of years old.
It’s true - hasatan preexisted in heavens … and turned as matter of his choice and will, to disobey and fall… he is part of the creation -
Brad points out that... there is much
science evidence of young earth.
Those who believe in evolution - they us a method to extrapolate things out.... and extrapolated backwards based on samplings… they take a span of time we can measure now - like 20 years.. and measure the changes in things..
--like how much the moon moves away from the earth…. we can measure that… = this is true science.
But they have to assume that all things are equal - no acceleration or deceleration…. and they use this methodology to prove certain things..
but by but using the same methodology - we can find evidence for a young earth…
IE - One of the issues = it was told if population keeps growing .. the earth will be over populated in 70s and then 80s etc… etc….
The truth is.. you can actually fit.. if stood everyone up an each had a square foot of room… you could put the entire population of the earth inside the city limits of Jacksonville Fl.
6 billion people is a lot of people… but you can fit them shoulder to shoulder in the city limits of Jacksonville. Now granted - we wouldn’t want to live like this... but it is not the number of people that are a problem...but the pollution and the distribution of food.
So let’s use the same logic of evolutionists.... we extrapolate the population increase backwards… in same way..
1985 - there were about 5 billion people
1800 - about 1 billion people
30 AD - about 250 million people..
so based on evolutionist’s own theory ... AND... not by coincidence we end up around 6000 years ago we end up with a population of about 10 people…. Noah’s Ark time!!
If we do what evolutionists say… the earth is millions of years old.. then using that same theory.. the population of the world would be…
150 thousand people per sq inch
If we multiply it in the same rate since 30 Ad…
is it a coincidence if we use that same method… that we go back to a handful of people right when the Bible says…??!!
We know that the moon, as it circles the earth… very slowly is moving away…
now, using this same logic … if man came on even a million years ago…
If it is moving away - then it was closer…
This would mean that a million years ago the moon was so close to the earth that the tides would have wiped out every living things two times a day. - based on the same logic as the evolutionists!.
Based upon the same logic .....at our trip to moon in 1969… It was believed that the dust on the moon would be very deep.
… They expected Neil Armstrong to step off the module and step into 4 feet thickness of dust… instead it was an inch or two
comets… every time we see them they are losing material… extrapolate that back in time based on material they lose… and science says “about” 10 k years ago…
... while i believe that we are nearing the end of 6,000 years...
Another example...
....we know the earth is spinning slower - not by much, but it is spinning slower.. so there was a time when it was spinning faster.. and if earth was millions years old - nothing would have stayed on b/c it would have been spinning too fast if you extrapolate the math backwards.
We know that based on the expansion of the Sahara Desert and we …measure the rate of that expansion and take it backwards.. they figure the beginning - is around 4k BC
the oldest known tree is about 4300 years old…
all linguists agree that writing is traced back to about 5k BC
and on and on..
This is also true with stalactites and stalagmites.
Scientists would come up with theories that they are millions of years… but we can measure how long it takes for these things to grow.. we come up with thousands of years - not millions!
we’ve had things built by man…
The Bonatear (?) mines… in Missouri - men dug them - huge mining caverns under a city...
…. and when men were done doing the mining - they filled it with water.
And what you have down there is also the stalactites and stalagmites…. a couple feet high and the mines are 100 years old… and they are already the size of science claiming they are millions of years old….
There are stalagtites/mites from the Lincoln Memorial…. and they obviously not millions of years old!
We also know that they thought it took millions of years for a tree/ forest to be petrified…. but we know in the Mt St Helen’s eruption - it took between a few days and instantaneously !!
*
The reality is... according to Brad Scott... that the BEST - most studied christians - only are beginning to get that the world did not evolve but was created - in seven days....
But they have no idea about nearly all of Torah!!
*
This Torah portion is about sacrifices... unto YHWH.
Learning to live and do an be as HE calls us too...
Keep in mind that if a person brought a sacrifice without a sincere and repentant heart... then the sacrifice meant nothing.
It was no more than an animal dying for no reason.
We see this today in persons who say the have received Mashiach, but there is no repentance....
So why is YHWH so particular about all the sacrifices?... It isn’t enough that someone brought a sacrifice but it had to be done in an exact way?
It is human nature to want to do things our own way... and when we don’t understand Torah... there is no Torah to stand on to make any decision based on Truth.
There are are many reasons for wanting to do it our own way... human nature, as i said... or perhaps because someone we love/d and respect/ed told us this is how we do it...
But just because we were taught to do something from birth, doesn’t make it right.
What makes it right is that it lines up with Torah - YHWH’s instructions.
Consider the season we are coming into... Pesach/ Passover...
I was taught to celebrate easter as the time of Yahshua’s resurrection.
We always had new clothes and to quote Mike Clayton... “went to church a bit early because there was going to be a larger crowd that day, made up largely of people whom we had not seen since Christmas.
After the service we would go home and eat ham” and then it was hunting for colored easter eggs.
“We did all these things not in honor of the false god of fertility that easter is really about. We did it unknowingly because through the years men had taken the way YHWH had told us to offer worship unto Him and changed it into something far from His ways.”
and it takes a lot of sacrifice to teshuvah -to return to YHWH’s ways...
But He’s always asked for sacrifice.
There will be sacrifices when He returns....
What sacrifice do you offer?? -- He’s calling...
amein
