April 19 - Pesach and First Fruits

Another look at Pesach....

**  **  **  **  **  *  **  **  **

Sh’ma

**
April 19, 2014 ~

Torah portions can be found in CJB p 1622

We are going to start in

Sh’mot /Exodus 12:21- 24 cjb p 72

Now i want to share with you information from a teaching Rav Matthew Nolan published on Pesach.

Some of it is going to be very new for us.

Most people believe that Pesach started here in Sh’mot 12.

But Rav Nolan says it happened before Sh’mot...

in the days of Avraham....  he actually had a Pesach covenant

B’re’shiyt 19:1-3  cjb p 17

in verse 3 the word “meal” is actually “moed” = Feast of YHWH !!

~
We have talked before that the Torah was known before Sinai...because there was sacrifice and there were clean and unclean animals known.

Noah knew which animals were clean and not clean.
Noah knew what was righteous....

So the Torah was given verbally...because the Torah is eternal.
Who is the living Torah?
Yochanan / John 1:1-2 cjb p 1329
“In the beginning was the Word (the Living Torah) ET and  the Word (the Living Torah) was with YHWH, and the ET (the Living Torah) was YHWH.  He was with YHWH in the beginning.”

The Torah is eternal - it was just codified - written down and given to the nation as Mt Sinai.

So the Pesach was from eternity.

Pesach was known through the age to the patriarchs, according to Rav Nolan.

In B’re’shiyt /Genesis 17,18, and 19...  is in the context of YHWH’s Pesach!

B’re’shiyt 18 is all about the Beinah - the SON...  but it wasn’t the SON that was sacrificed there.. it was the Lamb who was in a thorn bush!

*

After the death of the first born... YHWH has more to say about the Pesach in
Sh’mot 43-50    cjb p 73

Pesach is for anyone who comes into covenant....

Rav Nolan said something interesting next....
He said.. “To eat at the Pesach table you have to be able to judge yourself.”

What is he talking about??

I Corinthians 10 cjb p 1431 is all about judging yourself...

you can’t drink from an idol’s table... you can’t be pagan... you must come into covenant.

~
Rav Nolan then explains some misconceptions or messes we find in the world today...

People make big mistakes and view the Pesach Seder of today as a sacrifice...

He says that if the Temple was up and running it would be a sacrifice... they would follow all the instructions like no broken bones and burning any leftovers.... etc...

but there is no Temple...(building)

So this is a MEMORIAL.

The 3 elements that are required for Pesach Memorial are:
lamb
bitter herbs
unleavened bread

When we do this we are memorializing YHWH’s work of redemption.

*
Remember we talked about the first 7 words of the Torah:

“B’re’shiyt Bara Elohiym  ET hashamayim v’et ha’aretz”
“In the beginning created Elohiym the heaven and the earth.”

and this is a done deal...  perfect. Finished. 7 means completed.

And then hasatan fell...

and the next 7 words:

“V’ha’aretz hay’tah tohu vovohu v’choshek al-p’ney t’hom.”
“And the earth was/became without form and void, and darkness was upon the face of the deep.”

and hasatan thought this was a done deal - a completed work...

But then then next 5 words:

“V’rucha Elohiym m’rachephet al-peney ham-mayim.”
“And the Spirit of YHWH moved upon the face of the waters.”

and 5 means redemption.
Right there...  in the first to verses of the Torah... YHWH announces his plan for redemption...

So Pesach memorializes YHWH’s plan of redemption.  :)

*
Sh’mot 13:3-7 cjb p 73

... another confusing thing.. “Aviv”.

Rav Nolan says... “Aviv is the Babylonian name for the month of Nissan”

Wikipedia says that ever since the end of Babylonian captivity, Aviv has been called Nissan.

*

If you are taking notes...
I want you to write these numbers down, leaving about five lines or more between each one...

start with  #13 and number through...17

Aviv/ Nissan 13
preparation day for Pesach

as the 14th goes into the 15th
Pesach
slaughter the lamb at 3:00
seder that evening
Aviv/Nissan 15 = first day of Unleavened Bread
This is a HIGH SHABBAT
This is day 1 of the 7 days of Unleavened Bread

~
As we talked about getting ready for Pesach and even at Seder - Pesach is about getting the chametz - the sin- out of our homes and out of our lives!

In Pesach you should judge yourself - search yourself for sin and clean your “house” in preparation for Pesach Seder.

What we find is that every year we learn more - Praise YHWH! and so every year there is still more chametz /sin to clean up... (things we didn’t know/ understand before).

*
Vayikra /Leviticus 23:4-8 cjb p 136

Some people get different ideas.... of when Pesach is...

Some people think it is the 13th going into the 14th.. but this won’t work because you can’t sacrifice the lamb on the 13th!

Now let’s read about Chag haBikkirum  - the Feast of First Fruits
Vayikra 23:9-11 cjb p 136

Vayikra 23:11
cjb =
“He is to wave the sheaf before YHWH, so that you will be accepted; the cohen is to wave it on the day after Shabbat.”

“on the day after Shabbat”

--- This is an area where many get confused...
When is First Fruits??

We have studied for a long time - that it is the day after the Shabbat in the Unleavened bread time....
but maybe it is time to reconsider that... i don’t think we have had it right....

Let’s look at the Word...

Yes in our CJB it says...

.... “On the day after Shabbat”

but we have learned many times over, that translations make a big mess.

And we need to know that this is very important because this day determines when we start the Counting of the Omer ... and this tells us when Shavuot is!

~~
Rav Nolan says...
... our Tanakh comes from the Masoretic text... and that was translated by Monks who changed it at least 134 times in reference to Yahshua...

and a better translation is the Septuagint LXX because that was translated directly from the Hebrew text of Yahshua’s day... and is sometimes more reliable when “digging deeper into the Word.”

So if we look at
Vayikra 23:11 from the Septuagint LXX we find it says..
“He shall wave the sheath before YHWH to be accepted on your behalf on the day after the first day of Unleavened Bread.”

The Word Sabbath or Shabbat is not in the Septuagint.
So the meaning of Vayikra 23:11  - based on the Hebrew text from Yahshua’s day is...
that the Shabbat of First Fruits is on the day after the first day of Unleavened Bread.

-which makes sense to me b/c this is the THIRD day!
This is the 16th day of the month of Aviv or Nissan.

**
So let’s go back to your number/ day listing page...

14 Aviv/Nissan
Pesach
slaughter the lamb at 3:00
in eve - sit down and eat the lamb as the sun sets...
and the 15th starts as finishing meal..

15 Aviv/Nissan
first day of Unleavened Bread

So then as the 15th turns into the 16th - so into the evening...

The priests would go across the bridge into the Kidron Valley and they would say....
“With this sickle...”
and the people would say
“Yes with this sickle”

and the priests would say
“I shall harvest”
and the people would say
“yes, you shall harvest”

and the priest would take the sickle to the standing grain of barely and start to reap the First Fruits  - taking “10 Omers”...

and they would carry them across the priestly bridge and burn them and thresh them and get rid of the chaff...

After all that thrashing... the 10 omers would go down to 1 omer of grain.

(Now i am sure that means a bunch - but i don’t yet know.)

Rav Nolan explains that  - as soon as the sickle hits the standing grain - you are able to consume barely /bread/ grain products.

“You can’t consume them before, because they are for YHWH.”

Rav Nolan says - that this is when history tells us Jews always did this...
That First Fruits is the day after the HIGH SHABBAT of the First Day of Unleavened Bread....  not the day following the next weekly Shabbat.

~
But - let’s look at a second witness:

Y’hoshua /Joshua 5:10 cjb p 246
-If First Fruits was after the weekly shabbat - then Joshua called all of Isra’el to sin!....

So with that i believe that the Septuagint is correct...
That First Fruits is the day after the FIRST day of Unleavened Bread.

So let’s go back ... to Vayikra 23:9-11 cjb p 136....
.... and .. consider making a note in your Bible that where it says “on the day after Shabbat” in verse 11
you make a note that says the Septuagint says “on the day after the first day of Unleavened Bread.”

~
So look at your date paper again...

Aviv 14 - going into 15
you sit down to Pesach Supper

Aviv 15
first day of Unleavened Bread = HIGH SHABBAT

Aviv 16
day 2 of Unleavened Bread
Day one of the Counting of the Omer

And so from then we are to count 50 days... to Shavuot.

If we understand the counting of the omer we know exactly what day Yahshua ascended into the heavens...

and we know exactly how many days the Talmidim had before the giving of the Ruach HaKodesh...
... if you understand the spring feasts... all this will mean something to you!

*
Rav Nolan says.... Not understanding these feasts explains why people go to easter service...

... because they don’t understand the spring feasts of YHWH

and to think - Yahshua said he will give ONE sign...  Jonah...  the 3 days and 3 nights...

... and how long did we go through the motions pretending that we didn’t notice Friday night through Sunday morning is NOT 3 days and 3 nights!!!?!!
we can’t even follow one sign!!

*

so...

Aviv /Nissan 15
day 1 of Unleavened Bread

15th going into the 16th
the sickle goes into the standing barely and the first fruits are then brought in

16th
Day 2 of Unleavened Bread ...
...but it is First Fruits - day one of the Counting of the Omer

First Fruits is about the barley harvest.... while we then count the omer until we get to Shavuot - the wheat harvest...

Nolan says...
Barley is animal feed
while wheat is food for humans

And in that 50 days  - if we count every day we are supposed to transform as believers from carnal animal to supernatural believers... full of the Ruach HaKodesh!!

We are supposed to move from faith - into Kingdom faith ...
we are to be transformed in those 50 days!!

Why?  because we should have gotten rid of the chametz/ the sin in our lives before Pesach!!

**  ***  **

Okay - so let’s look at the B’rit Chadashah and see how it actually played out with Yahshua....

Mattityahu /Matthew 26:17 cjb p 1258
“On the first day for Matzah”  !!
again this is not translated correctly!
The Greek word that “ON” came from, is

=”Protos” and it can mean “first “ or “BEFORE”
So it should read BEFORE the first day of Matzah.
Strong’s # 4253

and what else we need to know is that whole week if mostly called the Feast of Matzah!

Mattityahu 26:17-23 cjb p 1258

Now let’s go to
Mark 14:12 cjb p 1282
“On the first day for Matzah...”

again this is a wrong translation.

that word “ON” is again - “protos”  - Strong’s # 4253

So it should read...  “BEFORE the first day for Matzah”

Read
Mark 14: 12-16 cjb  p 1282

Mark 26:13 - man carrying a jar of water -- meaning -- “follow the waters of purification -- that is the sign...

*
Luke 22:7 cjb p 1323
“Then came the day of unleavened bread”

This is an understandable translation b/c Pesach bridges into Unleavened bread - and again, the whole period is often called - The Days of Unleavened Bread.

Luke 22:1-7

I want to share something very interesting that Rav Nolan shared.... and i can’t tell you more than what i am going to say (yet).   He did say he has  a book that explains this.... and i have emailed him and asked for that title.

He says... regarding Luke 22:3...

about - Judas k’riot (Iscariot) ....Rav Nolan says that this was a brother of Messiah...

His sir name wasn’t K’riot (Iscariot)....  and that he was an assassin from Kumron.

This makes the betrayal all the more profound.

This is why Yahshua said “Who is my mother? Who is my brother?”

and the rest in this portion of Luke is the same as in Matthew and Mark.

*
Yochanan / John 18:28 cjb p 1354

They are in Pilot’s Court....  the pertoriam.

They couldn’t go in because in the pertoriam men were flogged and killed and if they came in contact with a dead body - they wouldn’t be clean for Pesach and not able to keep it.

This is on the 14th day of Aviv in the morning

And you can read on ... and this section ends by crucifying Yahshua and not the known criminal - Bar-Abba.

*
One of the things we need to know ... in Yahshua’s day and even today in ultra orthodox Jewish tradition - the Rabbi will take a minion - 10 of his best students....

and the rabbi will invite them to his home and they will have a practice Pesach Seder!...

-because these guys would be helping others “do it correctly”  at the real Pesach meal!

~
How could Yahshua eat the lamb - b/c he was the lamb that year...
.. he has to be slaughtered at the same moment the priest would call out “It is finished”....  b/c that is what the only Priest did that year... He cried out “It is finished”... just at the Cohen would have at the slaughter of the lamb!

So on the 13th day of Aviv /Nissan, Yahshua  had a meal with his disciples...
It was not the Pesach...

the “last supper” was not the Pesach Seder ...

It was a practice seder meal.

And after the meal he tells Judas to “go and buy” - If this was Aviv 14 going into 15, he would not been able to buy  - b/c it was shabbat of Pesach.

**

Another thing we need to do is forget all Roman stuff when figuring out when Yahshua died etc...

We have got to let go of Wed - Thrus - Fri - sat - sunday ...

and only go by DATES

I Corinthians 5:6-8 cjb p 1427

= The purpose of the Memorial Pesach Seder... is to transcend the natural state ... to get sin cleaned out of us and be kadosh!!

*

Aviv 13- going into 14

-get a room
-practice Pesach meal
-Yahshua tells Judas to go out and buy
-Yahshua is betrayed
-They arrest Yahshua

Morning of 14
-Yahshua is before Pilot
Afternoon of 14
-Yahshua is crucified in the “ha bein hamiyim” = “between the 2 evenings”
Yahshua cries out “It is finished” - as THEE Cohen...the very moment the lamb dies (he was the only Cohen to do that this the day he died.)

Before evening on the 14th
Yahshua is put into the grave

14 going into 15
in the grave

15 going into 16
in the grave

16 going into 17
in the grave

3 days and 3 nights in the tomb.... just as the Jonah prophecy!

In the morning of the 17th... women go to the garden and HE says... he hasn’t ascended to Father...

So he has to ascend and take his blood to the mercy seat of heaven so it can transcend Pesach and become the Yom Kippur sacrifice... the final Sin Sacrifice

(and Thomas can touch his scars after this.)

**  ***  **  ***  **

So let’s talk a bit about the Counting of the Omer:

Acts 1:1-17 cjb p 1360

vs 3 - speaking with them 40 days...

vs 6
They’ve got the transfigured Yahshua... and he is spending 40 days with them and the one question they ask ... is .... “When will you restore the Kingdom to Isra’el?”

“Every Jew understood - the purpose of Messiah was to bring in the 12 tribes of Isra’el to keep the Torah under the banner and covering of Messiah!”

Yahshua spent 40 days and ascended into heaven...

If Yahshua rose on the 17th day of Aviv..

What day of the Omer is that???

- Aviv 16 is day 1of Omer..
-Aviv 17  is day 2 of omer

Yahshua ascended into Heavens on the 42nd day of Omer..
leaving the disciples with 8 days  -which is “a sign of time after time”

=8 days without Ruach and without Yahshua....  that is why he said hold down and stay in Jerusalem = there is no Ruach until you learn to trust me...

8 days= a sign of time after time...

Then in Acts 2....the Ruach and the sign of the tongues of fire...!!

~~

Let’s look at
Colossians 2:6-8 cjb p 1471 for context

=through the love of wisdom...
philo = love
sophia = wisdom
==Philosophy ...
=== according to the basic traditions of men...

We should have the attitude of...

“All i know is Mashiach and him crucified.”   :)

So with Colossians 2:6-8 in mind:

-vs 8 can’t be talking about Torah!!

- So whatever happens in next verses - is not going to be anything about Torah...
but about paganisms...

Remember --  it was in colossal where people abused their bodies to try to be holy...

Colossians 2:13 ...

Rav Nolan said something very interesting here....
“Yahshua took away the law of adultery”

What am i talking about??

It goes back to:
 Yirmeyahu 3:8-10 cjb p 549
“I had sent her away and given her a divorce document

... even though we have all whored... Yahshua drank the cup that the adulterer would have drunk.

Who drinks the cupof adultery for us....  The very thing that we deserve...

In the spiritual realm we are all adulterers....  been whoring in the nations ; been pagan!

Colossians 2:15-18  cjb p 1471

Yahshua made a public spectacle of those demons who want to take us out... triumphing over them...

vs 16.... so let now no one judge you in food or drink of festival or sabbath...

--This has been so taken out of context!!!

-- Remember -  the collosals are into pagan astral deities...

and so.... Rav Shaul is saying do not let the community of pagans judge you b/c you are keeping his laws...   let the body of Messiah - the Torah judge you.. don’t let the pagan community judge you....

And christians keep trying to make this about ... nobody can judge what they eat....  !!!

**  **  **  **

Our memorial is that we eat unleavened bread, lamb , herbs... and drink of the cups...

And we remember what YHWH did for His people  and how Mashiach fulfilled the spring feasts...

And we can can go to Yesha’yahu /Isaiah  53...

Now keep in mind that Jews have used unleavened bread for thousands of years...
pierced and stripped for our transgressions...

Amein !  Praise YHWH!!
