30th B’re’shiyt teaching - based on Brad Scott’s B’re’shiyt teaching. - ( with permission).
READ:
Mizmor 119: 153-160 cjb p 919
B’re’shiyt 1:9
“Vayyo’mer Elohiym yiq-qavu ham-mayim mit-tachat hash-shamayim
el-maqom ‘ecad v’tera’eh hay-yab-bashah vay’hiy ken.”
Word for word translation:
“And said Elohiym let be gathered together the waters under the heaven unto place one, and appear dry land so and it was.”
English translation:
“And God said Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear; and it was so.”
Vayyo’mer Elohiym yiq-qavu
And said God let be gathered together
ham-mayim - the waters
mit-tachat - under
hash-shamayim - the heaven
el-maqom - unto place
echad - one
v’tera’eh - and appear
hay-yab-bashah - the dry land
vay’hiy - so
ken - and it was
~~~~~
YIQ-QAVU
root = qavah
qof -vav - hey
= to gather, to strive together in a particular direction for a cause; ‘to wait’, “to hope”, yearn, ruing pool of water, to look for - (like Yearning or hoping)
(hope is more in context than wait is...
b/c our “wait” is not the same way it is understood in Hebrew!)
B’re’shiyt 49:18 cjb p 57- “I wait for your deliverance”
IN this chapter is the first appearance of the word - which is where we get Yeshua from!!
This is where Jacob is blessing his 12 sons.... Hitgalut 8 - Dan is missing... Dan is based on cognante word DIN = judgment / house of judgment = why not included in Hitgalut 8... interesting that between the two sons... Dan and Gad in B’re’shiyt 49:16-17 and Gad in 49:19 We have verse 18 which is a plea or cry or prophecy concerning the seed of
the woman - of the Messiah... and Moshe says.. “I have water for they sal- vation”... qavah ... we said it means wait...
....but better is “hope”...
Some- times this is how we look at waiting for the Messiah... standing around, trudging through the world doing the best we can - waiting on Yeshua to come....
but this is not the meaning behind “i wait” ...
“I wait”
is about a communal gathering and hoping or yearning, striving together for a particular cause....
in other words...taking the whole idea of waiting and hoping for Yeshua... The Messiah’s return is our hope - it is a community thing - that his people Isra’el are working /striving together for the day Mashiach will come...
and we are going to relate this to baptismal next week...
Miz’mor 37:9 cjb p 825- “those that wait” - cjb = “those hoping”.... this means a working or striving together in the Kingdom of YHWH - not about the kingdom that is coming but about the kingdom that is already here!!
!
Yir’m’yahu 3:17 - “gathered”
Sh’mot 7:19 - “pools” of water
The most interesting use of Qavu =
Yirmeyahu /Jeremiah 17:13 cjb p578 - - “Hope of Isra’el”
“Hope of Isra’el, YHWH All who abandon you will e ashamed, those who leave you will be inscribed in the dust, because they have abandoned YHWH
Notice how the word hope = qavah is in context with the fountain of liv- ing waters.
Keep in mind what we are studying here is the gathering together of the waters for the specific purpose of doing to the earth and the creation what the cleansing of the waters does for the believer in Messiah.
Also notice that it says “those who depart from me shall be written in the earth.” kj
CJB says... “those who leave (Isra’el) you will be inscribed in the dust”
depart from me/ who leave me = to forsake the commandments of YHWH 26
and you notice that those who depart from his words... they shall be written in the earth...
you can’t can’t help when you read that but recall Yochanan 8 and the woman caught in adultery... who when Y’shua was confronted by the religious leaders... Yahshua stoops down in the ground and writes in the dust of the earth.
people assume all sorts of things that he is writing down the commandment or he is writing the situation or the names down of other who have violated Torah... in the sense that they have brought an illegal case before Y’shua...
Traditionally Christians look at Yochanan 8 and assume that YHWH has gotten rid of capitol punishment... and bc they bring a woman caught in adultery... knowing that the law says she shall be stoned... and they ask him what they should do.... and Y’shua writes names in the earth... those without sin cast the first stone..
...and then turns to woman and says -- “neither do i condemn you - go and sin no more”... christians assume that this a great example of Y’shua ridding us of the law - he didn’t sentence her to death....
....but the truth is.. the Jewish leaders have broken the law of YHWH... and they knew they had brought an illegal case before Y’shua...
If you read Torah - Sh’mot and Vayikra - you will see the commands concerning adultery ...
....and what you also see is that a man caught in the act of adultery can be stoned without the woman... however if the woman is caught in the act of adultery - the man must be there with her...and the wit- nesses too...and both be stoned.
Christianity glosses over the man missing, and doesn’t even consider that they don’t have the man- they don’t have the full evidence of what it takes to convict this woman.
The woman has sinned and there is a procedure for stoning by Yah himself... this is why Y’shua didn’t say to stone her...
....he didn’t say - we don’t use capitol punishment... he said... after writing the names in the dust of the earth who had broken the laws of God and then turned to the woman and said... “they have no case... go and don’t sin any more.” nowhere does Y’shua disregard Torah! :)
Those whose names are written in the earth have left /violated Torah... and here is Yirmeyahu - where ....the hope, the wait, is a gathering together and a striving together for a purpose as it relates to the fountain of living waters.
This is a fundamental background for the issue of baptism... the waiting together...
Brad Says....
You can be cleansed through mikvah so that you can wait together , strive together, hope together for a particular purpose
YHWH comes and he can not work with you until you are cleansed.
There can not be any oneness or unity between me and Yah until i am cleansed
- b/c Yah is a holy God a clean /pure God... so he can’t work with those who are not cleansed.
So the first thing he does....is to put me back up on my feet (out of the mire) and moves upon me and gives me his light and separates good from bad and he cleanses me....
....That is why Y’shua said you are to be baptized!
and we will continue this next Shabbat.
Many things stand out in this parashah....
but i want to talk about 2 that stood out to me...
- D’varim 29:8(9) cjb p 230
“Therefore, observe the words of the covenant and obey them: so that you can make everything you do prosper.”
Why keep Torah ??!!
so that you prosper!
2. D’varim 28: 22 cjb p 228
“YHWH will strike you down with wasting diseases, fever, inflammation, fiery heart, drought, blasting winds and mildew.”
and
D’varim 28: 65b cjb p 230
“YHWH will give you there anguish of hear, dimness of eye and apathy of spirit.”
**
Let me remind you...
D’varim 28: 65b cjb p 230
anguish of heart, dimness of eye and the apathy of spirit....
How is this not most people around us??!!!
So not only are we going to deal with physical issues, but with the dumb and deafness of the sheep -
*
Why would we follow all mitzvoth ?
- D’varim 29: 8:(9) jp 230
- simply because “Therefore, observe the words of the covenant and obey them; so that it may can make everything you do prosper.”
- Because He said so. :)
- AMEIN!
