Let’s start with review from last B’re’shiyt teaching:
page 34 in your study guide
B’re’shiyt 1:9
“Vayyo’mer Elohiym yiq-qavu ham-mayim mit-tachat hash-shamayim el-maqom ‘ecad v’tera’eh hay-yab-bashah vay’hiy ken.”
Word for word translation:
“And said Elohiym let be gathered together the waters under the heaven unto place one, and appear dry land so and it was.”
English translation:
“And God said Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear; and it was so.”
Vayyo’mer Elohiym yiq-qavu
And said God let be gathered together
ham-mayim - the waters mit-tachat - under
hash-shamayim - the heaven el-maqom - unto place
echad - one
v’tera’eh - and appear hay-yab-bashah - the dry land vay’hiy - so
ken - and it was
~~~~~
Vayyo’mer = and said
Elohiym = God
YIQ-QAVU =
root = qavah = qof -vav - hey
= to gather, to strive together in a particular direction for a cause; ‘to wait’, “to hope”, yearn, ruing pool of water, to look for - (like Yearning or hoping)
“Hope” is more in context than “wait” is...b/c our “wait” is not the same way it is understood in Hebrew!
B’re’shiyt 49:18 cjb p 57- “I wait for your deliverance”
Remember we talked about - in this chapter is the first appearance of the word - which is where we get Yeshua from!!
Yirmeyahu /Jeremiah 17:13 cjb p578 - - “Hope of Isra’el”
“Hope of Isra’el, YHWH All who abandon you will be ashamed, those who leave you will be inscribed in the dust, because they have abandoned YHWH.”
Notice how the word hope = qavah is in context with the fountain of living waters.
Keep in mind what we are studying here is the gathering together of the waters for the specific purpose of doing to the earth and the creation what the cleansing of the waters does for the believer in Messiah.
Those whose names are written in the earth have left /violated Torah... and here is Yirmeyahu - where ....the hope, the wait, is a gathering together and a striving together for a purpose as it relates to the fountain of living waters.
This is a fundamental background for the issue of baptism... the waiting together...
Brad Says....
You can be cleansed through miqvah so that you can wait together , strive together, hope together for a particular purpose
YHWH comes and he can not work with you until you are cleansed. (janet - ??)
There can not be any oneness or unity between me and Yah until i am cleansed (janet ?? - by teshuvah or by waters?)
- b/c Yah is a holy God a clean /pure God... so he can’t work with those who are not cleansed.
So the first thing he does....is to put me back up on my feet (out of the mire) and moves upon me and gives me his light and separates good from bad and he cleanses me....
....That is why Y’shua said you are to be baptized!********
There are those in christianity who go to 2 different extremeness with baptism....
1. = is that salvation happens at baptism = one is not saved unless water baptized
and the other
2. = is that baptism is just a ritual - a picture of what is taken place in your heart.
What Brad suggests is that Biblically, to be immersed in the Lord is to be cleansed ...
... and that is the purpose of all this ...
...Literally to be a cleansing of us so that we can produce fruit..
....just like what needs to happen with the earth....
Earth can’t produce fruit until it comes up out of the waters - cleansed, having a new hope and a fresh creation!
This is all related to in Romans where it says the creation yearns and groans waiting for its new body...
...Waiting b/c we will be cleansed when Y’shua returns.
We are being cleansed spirit soul and body.... and this is for now... cleansing.... so that my body will change - but still not be perfect.... the picture of what Yah has done - to being process of cleansing me spirit soul and body....
this is synonymous with what is going to happen with the earth. B/c you can’t produce fruit of YHWH until you are cleansed ...
I Corinthians 6
“He that is joined to the Lord is one spirit.”
This is done when we believe! the waters don’t save me but they are a part of the cleansing process!
This is the idea behind the baptism...
at Y’shua’s baptism... gathering together of the presence of YHWH, - Y’shua, YHWH/Father and Ruach there.
Isaiah 8:17 waiting and looking
Luke 12:36
Romans 8:22 Qavah in context with the creation
Romans 8:22 Qavah in context with the creation
waiting and groaning for it’s body as well...
Remember the idea of the gathering together of waters is to strive together.
even we are selves wait and groan.. waiting and hoping knowing that our bodies will be cleansed and washed.
we are saved by hope - hope that is seen is not hope...
we wait with patience... striving together in the Kingdom of God... working - not standing around with arms folded.
The word for baptismal...
miqvah - is the place of the baptism itself... the pool.... not a stagnet pool ... but running flowing waters - life.
baptismo - baptism - Hebrew is Tabolah (??)
the baptismal - where you baptise = miqvah..
Miqvah a veryold concept - in OT... not just in New
baptism.
potential bride and groom
woman after Nidah
new converts were also immersed and cleased and the term they would use to describe the convert as he came up out of the water is that he was “born again”...
and other reasons to use miqvah = cleansing and rewnewing.
The waters under the heavens.... gathered together in one place - ECHAD
The miqvah, the Hebrew word for baptismal, is the gathering place of waters.
The cleansing of the waters brings a fresh creation out from under them. A new hope, a restored earth
- water baptism plus waiting. - waiting for YHWH Y’sha’yahu 8:17
Yir’m’yahu 13:17
Miykah 5:7 - look for him, tarry
Luke 12:36 - wait for YHWH, cp. to Luke 12:49-50 Ma’sey hash Sh’liyechiym 1:4 - Spirit, baptism Romans 8:24-25
