In the Wilderness - Torah Portion B'midbar

Torah Parashah – B’midbar /In the Wilderness/Desert

B’midbar/ Numbers 1:1 – 4:20

If you keep the commandments that is a treasure to Yahuah - Harbour Light Ministries

Torah Parashah – B’midbar /In the Wilderness/Desert

B’midbar/ Numbers 1:1 – 4:20

Isra’el is still at Campsite # 11 – Mount Sinai.

(– Information from “Called to Canaan Volume 1” by Danette Davis and Shauna Manfredine.)

Let’s review what has happened at Campsite #11 – Mt Sinai

1.     YHUH’s first order of business at Sinai was to assure His people,

That HE claimed them as His own.  That He promised to bear them on “eagle’s wings” to their Canaan destination.

(Keep in mind that this was a promise to Yisra’el then…

It is also a promise to Yisra’el now.)

Shemoth/Ex 19:4-5 p 62

“You have seen what I did to the Mitzrim, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to Myself.

5 Now therefore, if you will obey My voice indeed, and shomer My brit, then you shall be a peculiar treasure to Me above all peoples: for all the earth is mine.”

Don’t miss here that Yah says,

“above all peoples”… THEN you shall be a peculiar treasure to Me above ALL peoples”

Isn’t this interesting?

“IF you will obey and shomer (watch, keep, guard, and remember) my brit – covenant…. THEN you shall be a peculiar treasure to Me – above ALL peoples.”

Seems to me Yah is saying – if you keep His instructions – that is a treasure to Him.

2.     Yisra’el experience some key events at Sinai

a.     They received the 10 Living Words

b.     They received the written law of the Book of the Law, after they broke the marriage Ketubah

c.     They received the instructions for building the Tabernacle, and constructed it, so Yahuah could dwell among them.

d.     They were ratified into Covenant with Yahuah.

3.      Moshe went up the Mt Sinai – 7 times. Seven represents spiritual completeness. – 7 times Moshe was giving parts of all the instructions!

4.     Yisra’el agreed to obey – to a marriage… and then they fell into worship of a pagan trinity…WHILE professing to worship Yahuah.

Remember the golden calf was a problem for several reasons:

A.    The golden calf was NOT a single entity.

There were 3 gods represented in it.

B.   They were blasphemously mixing idolatry into their supposed worship of the Living God.

Exodus 32: 3-4

“And all the people broke off the golden earrings that were in their ears, and brought them to Aharon.

4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a golden calf – and they said, These be your alohim, O Yisrael, which brought you up out of the land of Mitzrayim.”

“These be your alohim” – both ‘these’ and ‘alohim’ are PLURAL.

          Plus:

-          The solar disc on its head – represents the serpent/sun ‘god’ as the ‘father’ of the calf.

-          So that means you have

‘father’ = sun disc

 and ‘son’ = calf

-          The female part is represented by the base of the statue.

(This large stone altar is still standing today.  Remember Moshe ground up the calf and the sun disc.)

On these stones are petroglyphs depicting the Egyptian bull god Apis and his cow-wife Hathor.

In the Egyptian false religion, this ‘bovine’ family represented the unholy trinity.

These deities were also known as

Sun god – and moon goddess, and the false savior – mashiach tachat – anti- messiah.

The modern teaching related to this is – Europa and the Bull.

Europa – another name for Samarimis (now called mary) was a virgin.

The sun god changed into a bull and came to earth, enchanted Europa, carried her away, and raped her.  Then he returned to the sky.

The rape resulted in the birth of the sun god’s son – sometimes represented as the calf.

This is the basis for the name of the continent of Europe, and it is where Christianity gets the teachings on the “trinity”.

It is not a coincidence that ALL of the holy days on the current Christian calendar are identical to the pagan worship days for this unholy trinity, manifested as the bovine family of Egypt, but originating in Babylon as Nimrod, Samarimis, and Tammuz.

Two of the highest ‘holy’ days for the worship of this trinity are:

1.     Dec 25 -the birthday of the sun ‘god’s’ son

2.     Easter – the day of the unholy son’s resurrection.

The son of the sun ‘god’ has many names including Mithras, Baal, Tammuz, Molech and even Jesus!

The days they celebrate his birthday and resurrection day – make it easy to recognize him.

But worse than just the calf representing the UNHOLY TRINITY –

As I said earlier, - They were actually “worshipping Yahuah by blasphemously mixing idolatry into their supposed worship of the Living God.

“There is nothing more offensive to Yahuah than the mixing of profane, idolatrous practices into His sacred worship. It is the ultimate blasphemy and an act tantamount to the highest level of spiritual rebellion.”

- Lev 20:2-4 p 96

Going to the Parashah for today:

So that said, they are still at Campsite #11 – Mt Sinai

And Yah says to take a census:

All the men, 20 and above, able to go to war, and divided them by tribe.

So they counted all the men, but didn’t include the tribe of Levi.

Then in chapter 2 –

Yahuah gives instructions as to who the leaders of each tribe are and  where each tribe is to stand by their banner.

Chapter 3 is instructions of what each Levite family is supposed to do.

Then counted the males of Levi,

then they counted all the first born males of Yisra’el from a month old and upward.

They collected money from Yisra’el and gave the money to the priests.

Before I start I want to mention some things about what is going on in USA ...

-- We know that late June or early July  - it is expected that the US Supreme Court will pass the law making gay marriage legal in all 50 states.

I think we need to see this for what it is....
Not so much about allowing homosexuals to marry....

... but about a calling out of those who will not agree with this abomination.

This is a way to “find” those who are not “tolerant”.

You need to see this for what it is.

Our world is changing very very much.

~~
We also need to be aware -

July 15- Sept 15 - “A realistic military training exercise” known as “Jade Helm” will be conducted by the US Army.  More than 1,000 members of the US military will take part in this.  The list of states to be involved include Texas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, California, Mississippi, and Florida.

~~
We also need to be aware that this Sept 13 is Elul 29... on the Hebrew Calendar.... the last day of what many say is the Shemitah year.
Many are concerned about this date because we have seen giant stock market crashes on the last day of the previous 2 Shemitah cycles, in 2001 and again in 2008.

~~
On September 15th - the 70th session of the UN General Assembly begins.  It is being reported that France plans to introduce a resolution which would give formal UN Security Council recognition to a Palestinian state.  Up until now the USA has been blocking this... but now the President is indicating that things may be different now.

~~
Sept 25-27 - The United Nations is going to begin a brand new “sustainable development agenda for the entire planet”.  It includes provisions regarding economics, agriculture, education and gender equality.

On Sept 25 the Pope is going to be in New York to give a major speech kicking off the UN conference where this agenda will be unveiled.
~~
Sept 28 = first day of Sukkot  -- AND is the date of the last of the 4 blood moons in this series.

~~

And there are strange things going on - besides all the movement of military and military equipment...

There are “fears of a natural disaster” that could interrupt operations of the New York Fed Bank - and they are working hard to build up a satellite office in Chicago.

AND

NORAD  is moving back into the base deep inside Cheyenne Mountain after years of being out.  “The threat of an electromagnetic pulse” was the reason given for this.

Things may be changing greatly...
Keep your focus on YHWH.  NO FEAR.

44th B’re’shiyt study by Brad Scott...

Study guide p 52

We are at B’re’shiyt 1:20
The reappearance of the act of creation.

review:
-Creation - verse 1
-The fall
-Earth a mess - restoration of creation where the Spirit of Yah moves      over the face of the waters.   - verse 2
(Which is the same thing that happens to man - man is                    regenerated by the Holy Spirit.)
-Light produced - and earth comes up out of the waters.
-Fruit on the third day.
-Fourth day - stars and sun and moon to be a witness of YHWH’s glory - and tell the signs and seasons.

Now on the 5th day... we are going to have life - the first appearance of the word life - even though plant life has already been restored.
= animal life.

B’re’shiyt 1:20
“Vay-yo’mer Elohiym  yishe’re’tzu ham-mayim sheretz  nephesh chay-yah.  Ve’oph  oe’opheph  ‘al-ha’aretz  ‘al-pe’ney  re’qiy’a  hash-shamayim.”

“And said Elohiym let swarm the waters with swarmers soul living.  And birds let fly around above the earth on the face in the firmament of the heavens.”

“And Elohiym said, Let the mayim bring out abundadantly the moving creatures that have chayim, and fowl that may fly above the aearth in the openfirmament of the shamayim.”

Vay-yo’mer = “and said”

Elohiym = “the Great One”

Yishe’re’tzu = Shin-Resh-Tzad
= “to bring forth in great numbers; teaming,

-Translanted as swarm, or creeping things under the water.             move in great numbers;  bring forth, to creep.

Refers to all the life that is under the waters.

                   B’re’shiyt 8:17 - “breed abundantly” = Hebrew she’re’tzu;

                    Sh’mot (Exodus) 1:7 - “increased abundandtly”; Yechezeq’el                  (Ezekiel) 47:9 - “everythign that moveth/ liveth”

Greek - Eksago = Yochanan 10:3 “leadeth them out” = she’re’tzu... refering to the multitudes that will come out... like fish of sea.  Disciples are supposed to fish for the fish that are scattered among the nations...  You and are are compared to the multitudes of fish!

3 words associated with those who come out of Ephraim in B’re’shiyt 48  -
3 x the word mulitutde is used in the blessings...

                   48:16 “these boys”
                   “teeming multitudes”
                   48:19 “many nations” =
3rd time - says they will grow into a multitude... the word is Dagah = Hebrew word for fish.

The symbol of faith in Y’shua was always the fish in the beginning.  It wasn’t until about the 4th century that we got a cross.

“sharatz” = root.... speaks of all the life under the waters - the                  clean and the unclean.
          - We see that expressed in the other Greek word translated from              sharatz ...

          = “erpeton” in Greek.
Ma’sey hashShe’liyechiym (Acts) 10:12 -“creeping things”;            Romans 1:23 - “creeping” or “teaming swarms”
                    Ya’qov 3:7
Acts 21:30 “was moved”  = sharatz = the idea of life coming                     forth....

**
Next word:

ham-mayayim = the waters

**
Sheretz = with swarmers  - swarmers swarming... with swarmers soul living.
King James - “creatures that have life”
“have life” - comes from 2 Hebrew words = nephesh chay-yah = living soul, or soul living

-                        “soul” is not limited to human beings...
-                        There is going to be plant life, animal life, and human beings.
-                        = 3 distinct and seperate entities
**
Nephesh=  root = naphash = Nun-Peh-Shin
= to be refreshed, soul, creature, life, lust, selves,                             person, heart

---We are going to start learning about the interchanging use in the Torah (whole book) of “soul, life, heart, and mind”.
B/c YHWH is trying to show us that even though we are “spirit -soul- and body” from YHWH’s point of view, we are one person.

***  Hebrew doesn’t divide the person but sees the person as a WHOLE BEING.

Nephesh / soul as it relates primairly to the animals... b/c we will talk later on about people in detail.

= Sh’mot 31:17 “refreshed” - expresses movement and action -                things going on...
                   Vayiq’ra 24:1; 11:10;
                   Mishlei 12:10 - “life”
                   B’re’shiyt 2:19, 9:4 - “blood”
                   B’mid’bar 9:6-7

Plants  (first dimension)  - have life... plant life.  Plants are in ground in order to sustain our life.

Animals (second dimension)  - have a nephesh and life.  - They can reproduce after themselves and do things the plans can not.

Mankind (third dimension - height, width, and depth) - YHWH breathed His Spirit into man.

YHWH lives in a multidimensional existance...
Yah does this same sort of pattern on life on earth...

**
Torah Parashah -
 B’Midbar (Numbers) 16:1-18:32  = “Korach”
RSTNE p 120

 Please read on your own.

Note - YHWH just spoke about being kadosh / holy in the end of the last parashah... and now...  persons want to be in charge and they rebel.

The earth opens up and swallows them and their families and their things!

Aharon’s staff - bloomed and had ripe almonds on it!

Lewiym (Levites) responsible and in charge of the Bayit haMcdash.
          (Abba’s / YHWH’s house)

**
Guardian Angel - 4

Lets start by looking at our handout... (review)

Last week we were looking at B’re’shiyt 2:16-17
and the 2 double words ...  which we miss in English
“freely eat” - “eat eat” = achol tochel

“surely die” - “die die” = mot tomut

This is about being -  fully satisfied - achol tochel - that only got translated as “freely eat”....

and about being  EMPTY - total lack = mot tomut.

YHWH is saying “It is “feast or famine”... and it is your choice Adam.”

Adam’s choice is between YHWH’s design for DELIGHT - under all the trees of Gan Eden but one,  and Adam’s own decision to make his own garden in total insufficiency - under the one tree.

And since then... we have man’s choice = “the etz of the da’at of tov and ra.” = the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

and this is how man has worked it ever since...

-               Not YHWH’s way - the etz chayim / tree of life... where YHWH decides what is good.....
-               But  man keeps choosing the etz of the da’at of tov and ra ...

        -   Which is total lack.

** ~~ **~~**  ~~** ~~**  ~**~*~*~*~
So now - new stuff :)...

**

We know - the only prohibition (forbidden thing) - that YHWH gave Adam was...

Not eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

What comes right after this instruction?

= The only thing that YHWH said was NOT GOOD....

B’re’shiyt 2:18
“And YHWH Elohiym said, It is not tov that the man should be alone; I will make for him a helper as his counterpart.”

= So the next thing after the tree instructions is YHWH
recognizing the need for a “Helper” for Adam.

He says  - “It is not good for man to be alone.”

“Helper” = “ezer” in Hebrew Interlinear

the next word is kenegdo.
Kenegdo has been translated “for him” and in the RSTNE it is translated “as his counterpart”

But -The Hebrew Interlinear says...
kenegdo = “as in front of him”

hmm...

So
B’re’shiyt 2:18 should more correctly read:
“And YHWH Elohiym said, It is not tov that the man should be alone;  I will make for him an helper as in front of him.”

(No wonder we don’t read that in English! -it’s a bit too close to the truth for most translators i guess!)
~

Moen makes a point to say;
“The entire story of the first sin focuses on the role of the ezer kenegdo and the tree.”

He then goes on to explain that  -
-we cannot “ignore the obvious conclusion that the purpose of the ezer kenegdo is somehow connected to the command for Adam to obey.”

It’s interesting...
Moen points out that the “Prime Directive” -

B’re’shiyt 1:28 - “Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth and subdue it and have dominion over....”

... is given to BOTH male and female. - They equally received it
Yet the command to not eat from ONE tree was given only to Adam.
= B’re’shiyt 2:16.
(Keep in mind this story is not written in sequential order.)

Moens says...

“It is not Adam’s productive energy that needs assistance.  It is his faithfulness to YHWH’s instruction.  He needs a protector, encourager,  and spiritual director.  He needs someone assigned to keep him on the straight and narrow.  He needs one who comes alongside for the express purpose of guiding his obedience.”

This is Chava’s (Eve’s) role!

She is not the domestic assistant!

Moen says...

“Unless we recognize this aspect of the description about the Tree, we will not acknowledge that her role is the role of priest and spiritual guide for Adam!”

Chava is designed to “make sure Adam stays faithful to YHWH!”

“She is the one who stands between YHWH’s command and Adam’s obedience, watching over hims so that he will not go astray.”

“Adam guards the garden.  Chava guards Adam.”

“The help she brings is the help of reminding, rescuing and demonstrating trust.  In this role, she parallels YHWH’s ultimate relationship with Isra’el.  YHWH is the protector, provider and deliverer of Isra’el in the fallen world,  ---but those are roles YHWH takes upon Himself AFTER THE FALL.”
“In order to understand the role of the ezer kenegdo, we must look at YHWH’s relationship with human beings BEFORE THE FALL.”

*
Moen says...  he had a reader argue B’re’shiyt 3:16 “...and your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over you.”

What if ... ???    - and i believe this...
“The purpose of a cohen (priest)  AFTER THE FALL does not remove the need for a cohen (of a different kind) BEFORE THE FALL.”  ??

In B’re’shiyt 3:16 - “desire” is translated from “teshuqah”.

Moen says this word has been terribly mistranslated.

This - “B’re’shiyt 3:16 is actually a descriptive statement, not a prescriptive statement about YHWH’s decision to mandate consequences for sin....

        ... In other words...

“B’re’shiyt 3:16  describes what inevitably follows from a BROKEN DESIGN, a relationship turned upside-down.

B’re’shiyt 4 will explain this more...

But right now we need to know that some will say that “EZER” is never used of a “priest”  ...

.... BUT - In Nechemyah (Nehemiah) 12:42 it is the name of a priest.

(Moen points out that YHWH calls himself the perfect priest.)

**

So now let’s get to the story of the woman...

The Word says - YHWH saw it was not good for Adam to be alone.

Interesting that YHWH points this out - Adam doesn’t.

It is also interesting that YHWH only comments negatively about creation with Adam being alone...

It is also interesting that in B’re’shiyt 2:18... it really doesn’t just say tov there - it says

lo-tov... in the Hebrew and not al tov.

both LO and AL mean NOT.

“LO is the negative used in the 10 Living Words (commandments).”

LO means - not - as in “never the case”

as opposed to AL which means “not the case right now.”

-  So this means that it is LO TOV - never the case of good - for Adam to be alone.

Still in B’re’shiyt 2:18 - “ALONE” = “LEVADO” with a root  = “VAD”

I am going to over simplify some more complex linguistics here...

VAD has 2 meanings

-when Min is attached so it is MINVADO = “apart from or beside”

-when LE is attached it is LEVADO - the word we have here in the text
(2:18)   and this means “alone or by itself”

So the short story is... the full sense of the Hebrew here is =
= “The full sense of what it means to be human will not be revealed until ‘man’ is manifested as both male and female.”

Moen says...
“The male, the one who remembers, still requires another, a boundary-setter in order to properly bring about the order-making activity of YHWH’s image.  To know WHAT to do, is not enough.  Man must also know HOW to do what he is supposed to do.  And know WHERE to do it.”

You might think - “This is a no brainer - of course Adam needs a female so they can ‘be fruitful and multiply’....”

but so far - all that Adam has gotten came from YHWH...
and of course YHWH can make another just like he made Adam.

It can’t be just about sex... because YHWH could just make another like HE made Adam.

**
Remember i have said Greek thinking and Hebrew thinking are very different.

Greeks come to class and get out their paper and pen and say “tell me what you want me to learn”

and
Hebrews come to class and say ...”what are we going to DO today to learn?”

Moen says
“In Hebrew, nouns are more or less symbolic representations of inherent actions.”.
.. it is about DOING not BEING... it is about ACTIONS not         THINGS.

For example....

When Hebrew text describes YHWH as a “shield” ...

“it does not mean that YHWH has some characteristics associated with a shield.”

“Hebrew uses the noun “shield” as a symbolic representation for the ACTIONS of POWERFUL RESCUE AND PROTECTION.”

YHWH is not LIKE  a shield, He IS  a shield... He does what a shield does!

So Moen says - when we read that Adam is alone -
-  we need to think deeper than the words on the page....

yes, the fact is  - he is alone - he is by himself... yet he is not alone...

“Being alone is symbolic representation of DISORDER.”
“Something about the way Adam is supposed to be manifested requires more than his individual existence.”

“Man if manifested in community... we exist TOGETHER.”

Let’s go back to the words or title ‘ezer kenegdo’...

-  Keep in mind saying ‘YHWH is a shield’ doesn’t mean he like the shield but that he DOES shielding....

.....  So.. ‘ezer kenegdo’ is not simply a description.

“The Hebrew language doesn’t function with descriptive adjectives the way that Indo-European languages do.
Hebrew vies reality in terms of actions or purposes.....

....So...  ezer kenegdo is a manifestation of a purpose.

“The woman isn’t described by the terms ‘ezer kenegdo’.

“She IS the purpose inherent within ‘ezer kenegdo’!!!”

**

And we will have to learn more about that purpose next Shabbat.

43rd B’re’shiyt teaching by Bradley Scott
p 50 in the study guide.

B’re’shiyt 1:17
“Vay-yit-ten  ‘otam  Elohiym bir’qiya’  hash-shamayim  le’ha’iyr  ‘al-ha’aretz.”

“And set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light on the earth.”

“And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth.”

-- No new words.

B’re’shiyt 1:18
“V’eim’shol  bay-yom  uval-layelah  ula’have’dyl beyn ha’or uveyn hachoshek vay-yare’ Elohiym kiytov.”

“And to rule over the day and the night and to separate between the light and the darkness and saw Elohiym  it was good.”

-- He put them to rule over the day and over the night and divide the light from the darkness and YHWH saw that it was good.

-- No new words.

B’re’shiyt 1:19
 “Vaye’hiy - ‘erev  vaye’hiy-voqer  yom re’viy’iy.”
“And it was evening and it was morning, day fourth.”

“And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.”

New word:
RE’VIY’IY          - resh -bet-ayin
root = rabah = fourth, four - rav - to spread out

This day was to govern the signs and the seasons on earth which generally come in fours:

1. 4 elements - earth, wind, fire water
2.  regions of earth - north, south, east, west
3.     seasons - spring, summer, fall, winter
4.    lunar phases - new moon 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, full moon.

** Remember that the creation is the pattern for man.

On the third day we had the fruits and we have the Messiah’s ressurrection = Him rising on the 3rd day.

When the 4th day started - the Messiah appeared to many people on that day....

          Yochanan 20:20 p 776
When Messiah comes out to his own/ Talmadim - to witness that he had risen.

And here on the 4th day we have the sun and the moon and stars being a witness.

 SUN = shin-mem-shin
root = shemesh - to serve
           = greater light

= sh’mesh - the center candle of the Menorah - the higher light - the ministering or the serving light. There would be no light if the Sh’mesh did not give the light.

In Mattityahu and in Joel 2:10, and Acts 2 - we read that in the last days - It will also be darkened and turned to blood.

** This is a picture that the world has rejected these signs.... !!
YHWH communicates through these things and man has rejected these things.

The whole picture of the sun and the moon be turned to sack cloth and darkness and blackness  and blood - is a picture of the world rejecting these things.

AND of course He who rejects the Word of YHWH is rejecting Y’shua the Deliverer.  The picture of that - is the wiping out of the sun and the moon.

MOON  - yod-resh-chet
          = the lesser light
          -yarecha - month, moon
= month, chodesh= to rewew, restore and repair

The whole idea of the moon going through its phases is the idea of the moon renewing each month.

This is also a picture of us - after t’shuvah - we are restored ... we returned and are renewed b/c we are forgiven and we start walking out the Truth.

This is a picture of the “renewed” covenant... The New covenant - restoring the Melchizedek Priesthood.

- And of course most of the world and the church today still reject that covenant and TRUTH

This is the first time - Chayim / Life and Nephesh / Soul - is seen in Word.

The 3rd session in talking about men and women - based on Skip Moen’s book - Guardian Angel.  - A study of women based on the Hebrew Scriptures.

Let’s review:

In the first teaching we talked about how there is so much divorce....
and... as Moen says....
“The real problem is ignorance about the Scriptural view of marriage and, perhaps even more fundamental, a non-biblical view of the relationship between men and women and the roles and responsibilities of both.”

and that Moen went on to say:

“A defective understanding of God’s design for women” (and men!!) “leads directly to broken relationships.”

and we talked about:

B’re’shiyt 1: 26-27 p 9
“And Elohiym said, Let US make man in Our image, after Our likeness:  and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth.
27 So the Word of Elohiym created man in His own image, in the image of Elohiym He created him, male and female He created them.”

Many teachers have noted that this establishes equality between male and female, assigning dominion to both without distinction.

The word
“image” = tselem

The word
“likeness” = demut

Tselem - “image” - is a masculine noun and

Demut - “likeness” - is a feminine noun.

And then we said....

“What it means to be created in YHWH’s image might be much more like what it means to be flowing water than what it means to be a chemical compound of hydrogen and oxygen...

In other words - “the idea of being human just might be about what we DO rather than how we are constituted.”

Moen says...
“Any behavior that denies, negates or rejects these goals is not human behavior  - and the creatures that exhibit non-human behavior are not creatures that exhibit YHWH’s image.”

and then....

TSELEM - is about transferred authority and order over what destroys.

Understanding tselem  and demut - teaches us that the image of YHWH is not a static element.

“I reflect YHWH’s image as the order maker, when I act as the order-taker.  It is action without the relationship that constitutes the image.

Wow is this a big deal!!  We’ve heard forever it is about the relationship I have with a guy whose names starts with a J.

But what i am saying today - what Moen is saying the WORD says - BASED ON THE HEBREW WORDS.... based on what it really says is...

-- If i want to be in HIS image, then i have to DO something.

I am tired of people complaining that they feel “far away” from YHWH....  well...  If i feel far away - then i better get my life lined up with Torah - because that is how i am blessed!!!

“We are manifested as human beings when we act humanly, when we act in ways that manifest the image and likeness of YHWH.”

In the same way  -
The divine name of YHWH is a verb
          - The image of YHWH is a verb.”

so....

“To be created in YHWH’s image is to reflect divine action.”

**

Then we got to “male” and “female”

“Male” in Hebrew = zakar.
“Female” in Hebrew = neqevah

Remember
A homophone is a word that is spelled exactly the same way in Hebrew -          --but it has a different meaning.

“Zakar” (male) homophone - “to remember”
It is thinking that becomes doing.

=  “To bring something to mind in order to act upon it.”

~
Neqevah ...
= female....
-    The Arabic cognate not only means “to pierce, to make a hole”,

The homophone =
-    but also to “single out” and “to appoint as a leader”
It also means  - “a boundary setter.”

~~
We also talked about what Moen calls

YHWH’s Prime Directive....
B’re’shiyt 1:28
“Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moves upon the earth.”

“The Prime Directive is a description of the acts that manifest what it means to be human:

to be fruitful and to increase,
to act as YHWH’s regents to steward the earth,
          to act with designated authority.

“Being human means acting in harmony with YHWH”s creation.

“Where my life exhibits or endorses chaos, disharmony or life threatening behavior, I am not actings as a human being.”

Biology is not enough to make me human.”

**
This was a really crazy new concept for us.

**~~**~~*~~***~~**~**~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Then in the second teaching about this:

We think that the story of Adam and Chava begins with YHWH’s announcement that Adam needs a helper!”

“In the Hebrew text we find deliberate interconnections from one passage to another, reminding us that all the parts of the story are TIED TOGETHER.”

“So if we want to understand why YHWH created woman....
we have to start with the prologue of the story.”

Think about how you thought this story began.....

And we were surprised to learn it begins with...
*
B’re’shiyt 2:5
“And every plant of the field before it  grew: for YHWH Elohiym had  not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.”

“This story doesn’t start with Adam being alone.

It doesn’t even start with Adam being in the Garden... or with the creation of Adam.

It begins before YHWH sent the rain.”

Moen goes on to say....

“In the prologue, the Tanakh connects adam and ha’adamah with a verb that sets the stage for all that follows.”

That verb is avad.

In our Bibles it is translated as “till” the ground.

But AVAD does NOT mean “to cultivate”.  !!

“to cultivate” is suggested by the context... but AVAD doesn’t mean “to cultivate”

AVAD means = “to work” or “to serve”

and we learned that our work/ our service is to be worship unto YHWH.

~
We learned that based on the 2 words for earth in this story - If we serve/ care for the earth - doing that - replenishes us.

So we find that YHWH fused work, service and worship as an act of self-nourishment.
= when we do what YHWH designed us to do we minister to our own source of being and fulfill his purposes.

~~
As we learned about Eden... we learned that
we don’t determine what will be pleasure in life....

“YHWH tells man what pleasure is and what it is not.”

We learned that
in B’re’shiyt 2: 16-17
“And YHWH Elohiym commanded the man, saying ‘Of every eytz of Gan Eden you may feely eat:  17 But of the eytz of the da’at of tov and ra, you shall not eat of it: for in the yom that you eat from it you shall surely die.”

Was this command only about eating??....

The text reads...
“achol tochel”

but it is REALLY  - “achol achol”...

“It’s as if YHWH repeated Himself in order to underline the idea...”

--And we know that is how it works... when a word is repeated - it says it double strength.!

ACHAL =“the strength to control what is allowed”....

“In other words, this verb  for consumption already incorporates the concept of control.”

“The act of consuming acknowledges our responsibility to control what YHWH allows.”

Moen says...
“We can feast because He gives us permission, but we are still responsible for HOW we consume.”

This picture changes a few things...

== ACHAL is no longer just about food!

“This is about EVERYTHING YHWH gives in His place of delight!”

So Moen says...

It turns out...

“Eden is YHWH’s pleasure palace”

Moen says...

“here’s the best part.  Eden is located where YHWH delights to provide pleasure.  Eden marks the spot wherever YHWH puts the earth- creature in circumstances that encourage delighting in HIs gifts.

ACHAL is about consumption,  ---not just about eating food.”

Achal is the picture of “strength to control what is allowed.”

Moen goes on to say...

“What sets Adam apart from the rest of a creation is Adam’s willingness to allow YHWH to determine what he will eat and what he won’t eat.

Adam is not to be driven by his desires. He is to be guided by YHWH’s word.

He is to remember what YHWH said and to act accordingly.”

**
So starting a new part of this ... (just briefly)...

In order to finish the prologue before woman is created....
....we have to look at the consequences of disobedience.

B’re’shiyt 2: 16-17
“And YHWH Elohiym commanded the man, saying ‘Of every eytz of Gan Eden you may freely eat:  17 But of the eytz of the da’at of tov and ra, you shall not eat of it: for in the yom that you eat from it you shall surely die.”

- This command reveals more than the translation allows.

What we have to know here about the Hebrew language is that Hebrew handles emphasis by manipulating the structure of the language.

So it is about how the words are arranged... in order to draw attention to particular ideas.

As we know - doubling a word puts emphasis on the idea.

Putting a word in first or last position in a sentence does the same thing.

In
B’re’shiyt 2: 16-17
“And YHWH Elohiym commanded the man, saying ‘Of every eytz of Gan Eden you may freely eat:  17 But of the eytz of the da’at of tov and ra, you shall not eat of it: for in the yom that you eat from it you shall surely die.”

Another word is doubled - and you can’t see it in English.

It is mot.

This verse in Hebrew doesn’t say  - “you shall surely die”.

It says “you shall die die” = “mot tamut”

Just like it says “eat eat” - “feely eat”.
In Hebrew this is “achol tochel”.

But these words mean so much more than “eat eat” or “freely eat”...

It means YHWH delightful provision.
Everything i need is present and available to me” - (Moen teaches)

The garden is a place where true satisfaction is found under every tree except one.

At the same time - these words about dying - “mot tamut” are descriptive....
Under the one tree - life as defined by YHWH comes to an end.

Moen says...
This is a description of the facts, not a prescription of ethical behavior.

YHWH isn’t giving Adam a RULE .
He’s telling Adam the way it is....

If you eat of this tree - then this will happen.

YHWH doesn’t demand Adam eats from every tree -  But He does offer every tree.

It is important to notice the parallelism in these verses with 2 double words, so that we can understand the punishment for disobedience.

*
YHWH says clearly -
“Adam, if you eat of this tree you will “mot tamut” - “die die”  or in English - “surely die”.”

But then Adam doesn’t fall over dead when he eats it... in fact he lives a VERY LONG TIME!

What is this about??

Christian teaching has always said - “well, Adam died spiritually.”

BUT that doesn’t maintain the parallelism of these verses in Hebrew.

What this is really pointing out is...

The opposition is between - fully satisfied - achol tochel - that only got translated as “freely eat”....  and EMPTY = mot tomut.

YHWH is saying “It is “feast or famine”... and it is your choice Adam.”

Adam’s choice is between YHWH’s design for DELIGHT and Adam’s own decision to make his own garden.

Moen says...

“What Adam loses with his choice - is a place in YHWH’s delightful life.”
Adam is trust out of the garden into a world of his own making without the delightful provisions of YHWH.

“As a result of disobedience, Adam suffers insufficiency.  He has to labor to find delight.”

This verse is about the idea of “FULL SUFFICIENCY under YHWH’s conditions - vs- insufficiency under self-determination.”

Remember Adam is supposed to be remembering YHWH’s plan...  and knowing YHWH’s plan - he picks the “empty”.
wow.
Isn’t that just like us.
As though we can do it better than YHWH!

*
We tend to think that Adam’s sin resulted in spiritual separation and spiritual separation results in death... and from this we proceed to the need for repentance and redemption.

In other words... we connect Adam’s sin with Y’shua’s death, placing them both in the spiritual arena.

Of course there is a connection Moen says... but...

But this isn’t the only consequence.  ...

“Mot tamut” describes what it means to be outside YHWH’s delight.

It isn’t just spiritual death -
        - It’s alienation from the provision of YHWH!!!!

Adam’s sin turns delight into destitution.

And from a Hebrew perspective, the EVENTUAL spiritual condition isn’t nearly as important as the present reality.

“Unlike christianity, Hebrew thought is primarily focused on this world.
What matters most is being in YHWH’s will TODAY!

SO THIS HELPS US UNDERSTAND THE 2 DOUBLES =

The 2 doubles are  EMPHASIZING THE IMMEDIATE, TEMPORAL CONSEQUENCES OF INSUFFICIENCY;  something we would expect if we read with Hebrew eyes.  :)

********
wow!!
AMEIN!!
